Education and teachers training
The Institute sponsors education projects in seven African countries; Gambia, Ghana, Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
Each project is managed and developed by an international co-ordinator volunteering their time and expertise to develop a training programme for African teachers and pupils to support their curriculum. Each co-ordinator works to identify the local educational needs and has developed a best practice model for teachers to refer to, so that the skills can be passed on to new generations of teachers.
On top of these projects, IOP has also set up partnerships with charities such as LabAid and BookAid to donate books, ICT resources, as well as laptops, printers and other IT equipment. All donated items are checked and calibrated before they are sent to Africa.
If you are interested in working with the IOP to start a new project in Africa, please complete the 'Application to start a new schools project' form (Word, 38 KB).
We are only able to start new projects in countries that do not have an existing project already running. Potential new projects will be judged against a set of defined criteria such as impact and sustainability. Applications must be submitted by 31 March to qualify for funding in 2012.
